Flexible production processes, precise product tracing require a close communication network up to the sensors and actuators. The fieldbus independent IO-Link communication interface provides a standard solution for these demands. Devices which had to be well accessible for operation can now be mounted precisely where needed, thanks to IO-Link. Configuration is implemented via the higher level control system, parameterization is either implemented via the control system or via engineering tools like FDT/DTM. This way, costly commissioning times are considerably reduced. The seamless communication enables the user to respond with IO-Link to new requirements even when the machine is running. For example, the configuration settings can be changed via IO-Link centrally and quickly when a product is changed. The same applies to the exchange of an IO-Link sensor during servicing. The parameter and configuration data is transferred via the central control system to the new station.
